Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Apprentice Substation Technician Intern - Summer 2025 (SCC Milford Students) located at York Operations Center in York , Nebraska. Position closes October 31, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

This position will report to a Substation Supervisor.

Position Summary

The Internship's function is to learn and mentor from experienced substation technicians in the field for a period of time from mid-May to mid-August 2025. Incumbent must have successfully completed their first year (first two semesters) of college with SCC-Milford majoring in Electrical or Electro-Mechanical Technology. The Incumbent will perform effective substation maintenance, testing and operation activities required for "safely keeping the lights on" for the assigned area. Responsibilities include installation, checkout, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and operation of electrical equipment, frequent travel, occasional overnight stays, and responding to emergencies.

Incumbent will be required to complete a background check, physical, and drug screen prior to starting with the District.

Incumbent will be required to report wearing safety shoes that meet ASTM F2413-05 specifications.

Education, Training and Experience

Incumbent must have successfully completed their first year (first two semesters) of college in the Electrical or Electro-Mechanical program at Southeast Community College-Milford.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Complete new installations, modifications, troubleshooting, preventative/ predictive maintenance and repair of electrical/mechanical equipment up to 345 kV.

Follow and adhere to all policies and procedures to ensure the work is completed correctly and safely.

Safely plan, organize and perform both emergent and scheduled work.

Utilize work management processes.

Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay - $24.08/hour

Travel Required: 50% to 75% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
