SpiriTrust Lutheran Controller in YORK, Pennsylvania

SpiriTrust Lutheran is now hiring a Full Time Day Controller for SpiriTrust Lutheran and SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice.

Education/Training: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or Finance required; knowledge of healthcare and non-profit accounting preferred.  Certified Public Accountant license preferred.

Skill(s): Leadership, Supervisory, technically proficient, Confidential, excellent accounting acumen, capable of managing all aspects of the general ledger, preparing financial statements in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.   Ability to recruit, hire, develop and motivate excellent professional staff.  Effective use of complex, automated, integrated accounting and administrative software.    Excellent Excel skills.  Effective use of the internet.  Able to convene and lead meetings among staff, colleagues and other employees on a variety of topics.  Able to do independent research of accounting issues and business transitions. Pleasant, team-spirited telephone and interpersonal relations.  Speaks and understands English; proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communication skills; proficient analytical skills; proficient PC skills; and valid driver's license. 

Experience: Four years or more years of experience as a Controller or equivalent key Financial Manager in a medium or large sized organization in a field similar to that of LSMNJ.  Experience directing or managing the work of other accountants, administrative staff, or distributed colleagues. Preparation of complex financial statements and related notes.   Preparation of Agency tax returns, e.g. Forms 990, 1120, and 1099. Writing Management's Discussion and Analysis of Results of Operations ("MD&A").  Experience developing annual operating budgets and business plans and evaluating business opportunities.  Experience developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.

*General Responsibilities *

Essentially is the chief accountant of the Agency.  Responsible for all accounting and financial matters, reporting of results of operations, and preparation of all financial statements and tax returns and related MD&A.  Prepare required documentation for the various annual audits by the independent public accountants. Compile the annual operating plan budget. Guide the work and development of other professional accounting staff.  Interact with other key Agency managers for the expansion of the Agency in accordance with the Mission Statement.  Responsible for providing oversight and management to the SPIRITRUST LUTHERAN financial and accounting systems; implementing strategies to achieve goals as established in the department's annual operating plan; ensuring the department's compliance with operating standards and procedures and outside regulatory requirements; organizing the work, activities, and human resources of the department.

Essential Duties

  1. Ensure that monthly financial statements and MD&A are prepared timely and accurately in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and/or other comprehensive basis of accounting.
  2. Assure proper supporting documentation and managerial authorization of all accounting transactions.
  3. Review supporting documentation prepared by accountants monthly to support balances in the general ledger for all entities within the organization.
  4. Prepare required documentation for the various annual audits by the independent public accountants.
  5. Compile the annual operating plan budget.
  6. Lead the compilation of data for the Agency Tax Returns.
  7. Recruit, hire, develop, and motivate excellent professional accounting staff.
  8. Perform independent research of accounting issues and business transactions as necessary.
  9. Develop and maintain a codification of all accounting policies and procedures.
  10. Manage cash balances and cash requirements corpo ate-wide to ensure proper Treasury management.
  11. Manage and maintain efficiently interconnected accounting software systems.
  12. Interact with other key Agency managers for the expansion of the Agency in accordance with the Mission Statement.
  13. Manage special projects as assigned.
